(IN SHORT) Scandinavian Airlines has been ranked both the world’s most punctual airline and Europe’s most punctual airline in Cirium’s April 2026 On-Time Performance report after achieving an on-time arrival rate of 89.53 percent. The recognition marks the second consecutive month SAS has led the global rankings and comes during a period of ongoing operational disruption across the aviation sector. CEO Anko van der Werff credited the achievement to disciplined operational execution, employee commitment and strengthened coordination processes across the airline. SAS said recent improvements in turnaround procedures, planning and network coordination have helped support stable and reliable flight operations despite continued geopolitical and industry challenges.

(PRESS RELEASE) STOCKHOLM, Sweden, 2026-May-7 — /Travel PR News/ — Scandinavian Airlines has been ranked as both the world’s most punctual airline and Europe’s most punctual airline in Cirium’s April 2026 On-Time Performance report, achieving a rare double distinction during a month marked by operational disruptions across the aviation industry.

The airline recorded an on-time arrival rate of 89.53 percent in April, securing the top position in both global and European rankings compiled by aviation analytics company Cirium. The achievement comes during SAS’s 80th anniversary year and follows the airline’s previous first-place global ranking in March 2026.

According to SAS, the result reflects ongoing efforts to improve operational stability, reliability and customer confidence despite continued industry pressures linked to geopolitical instability, including disruptions associated with the situation in the Middle East.

Anko van der Werff said the recognition highlights the work of employees across the company who contribute daily to maintaining stable and reliable flight operations. He noted that achieving the top global and European positions simultaneously during a difficult operational period demonstrates the resilience of the airline’s workforce and the consistency of its operational processes.

Van der Werff added that customer trust remains central to SAS’s strategy and said the airline continues focusing on delivering dependable travel experiences despite ongoing external challenges affecting the aviation sector.

The April performance marks the second consecutive month in which SAS topped Cirium’s global punctuality rankings. The airline also pointed to a broader record of operational performance over recent years, including seven number-one rankings in Europe and four global top rankings over the past two years.

Mike Malik described SAS’s achievement as particularly notable because ranking first globally and regionally during the same month is considered one of the rarest outcomes within monthly on-time performance data. He added that maintaining such performance across consecutive reporting periods demonstrates a high level of operational consistency rarely achieved by airlines under current market conditions.

SAS attributed the improved punctuality performance to a series of operational enhancements implemented over the past year. These measures include tighter turnaround procedures, more structured day-to-day operational planning and stronger coordination between departments across the airline’s network.

The company stated that these improvements have contributed to more predictable and stable operations while helping the airline manage external disruptions more effectively.

Although the April ranking represents a significant operational milestone, SAS said it plans to continue focusing on reliability and execution as it enters the busy summer travel season. The airline emphasized that maintaining operational consistency remains a long-term priority for both customer satisfaction and network performance.

The strong punctuality results come at a time when airlines globally continue facing operational challenges including geopolitical tensions, airspace disruptions, supply chain pressures and fluctuating travel demand.
