Lufthansa to fly German Olympic team to Sochi

Partnership with German Olympic Sports Confederation extended by four years

2013-01-25 — /travelprnews.com/ — Lufthansa is to remain a partner of the German Olympic team for a further four years. The agreement extending the partnership was signed during a personal meeting between Thomas Bach, President of the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB), and Christoph Franz, Chairman and CEO of Deutsche Lufthansa AG. As the Official Carrier of the German Olympic Team, Lufthansa will therefore fly the athletes to the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.

In addition, Lufthansa will continue to be a competent partner on hand to deal with air travel-related issues at the German House, the national meeting place during the Games for athletes, trainers, the media and business partners. “Lufthansa is highly acclaimed worldwide, and our German athletes enjoy flying with the German flag carrier. We are looking forward to flying to Sochi and Rio de Janeiro with Lufthansa,” said DOSB President Thomas Bach, himself a former Olympic gold medallist in fencing. Lufthansa Chairman and CEO Christoph Franz commented: “We are delighted to remain a reliable partner of the DOSB and to fly the athletes to the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi. Lufthansa is thus continuing a long tradition, which dates back to 1972.” That year, when the Olympic Games were held at Munich, Lufthansa was named “Official Carrier” for the first time. Since then, German athletes have flown with Europe’s largest airline to competitions all over the world.  Axel Achten, Managing Director of Deutsche Sport-Marketing GmbH, said: “We are proud to continue the cooperation with Lufthansa through to the Games in Rio de Janeiro. The airline is a highly attractive partner in the Olympic context, both in terms of partnership content and brand charisma.”
