New air service bolsters schedules for the Fourth of July holiday
Oakland, CA , 2022-Jun-30 — /Travel PR News/ — After an exceptionally busy Memorial Day travel weekend, Oakland International Airport (OAK) once again projects that a high volume of passengers will pass through its terminals for the Independence Day holiday weekend. As Independence Day falls on a Monday this year, OAK expects many travelers to take full advantage of the long weekend leading to a busy 6-day travel period from Thursday, June 30th to Tuesday, July 5th.
Based upon the number of scheduled airline seats and the holiday falling on Monday, passenger totals this weekend are likely to match those seen in 2019. OAK estimates that approximately 240,000 passengers could travel through OAK between Thursday, June 30th, and Tuesday, July 5th. Friday is expected to be the busiest travel day with the highest volume of seats on the schedule.
“We expect many travelers to take advantage of the long holiday weekend for Independence Day this year, and we anticipate nearly reaching the passenger traffic levels we saw in 2019 before the pandemic,” says Bryant L. Francis, Director of Aviation at the Port of Oakland. “We ask that everyone keep in mind two things: first, follow your airline’s guidance regarding when to arrive at the airport – now that is generally 2 to 3 hours before departure; and second, our sincere appreciation of your patronage and for choosing to Fly the East Bay Way.”
Recently launched new flights to Philadelphia and San Diego on Spirit Airlines and Kailua-Kona on Hawaii island by Hawaiian Airlines are all net gains over the 2019 schedules and add to the number of scheduled seats this year.
Many shops and restaurants are open and ready to serve at OAK. Click here to view what offerings are open now at the airport. Newly opened restaurants at OAK include Oaklandish Coffee Collective in Terminal 1, and the new Peet’s Coffee, Subway, and Farley’s Café in Terminal 2.
