New Exhibit Featuring Childhood in Early America to Open at The Hershey Story Museum

Hershey, Pa. – 2013-01-07 — /travelprnews.com/ — On Friday, January 18, The Hershey Story, The Museum on Chocolate Avenue will debut its newest special exhibit, “Sugar, Spice, Slugs & Snails: Childhood in Early America.”

Guests will be invited to play with vintage toys and games of the 19th century, including checkers, dominoes, hopscotch and tops. Visitors can examine items such as children’s playthings, furnishings and clothing as they discover how society viewed childhood and the role that economics, education and gender played in growing up.

The exhibit will feature a schoolhouse setting with desks that guests can explore. Visitors can also participate in a “Now & Then” interactive that allows them to guess the historic equivalent of modern “tools” used by students.

This will be the third in a series of exhibits featuring Pennsylvania German artifacts. Some of the objects on display in the exhibit are from the Danner Collection, a large Pennsylvania German collection that Milton S. Hershey purchased in 1935.

Free with Museum Experience admission, the Childhood in Early America exhibit will be on display in the Special Exhibit Gallery through Monday, May 27, 2013. For a complete calendar of events, hours and ticketing information, visit www.HersheyStory.org.
