New charge for Radio Operators Certificate of Competence

2012-09-26 — /travelprnews.com/ — A charge of £35 will be levied on the Radio Operators Certificate of Competence (ROCC) from 1 October 2012, the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) said today. The CAA said the charge was necessary to cover administration costs.

ROCC is a qualification designed to ensure the safe and effective operation of aeronautical radio stations that provide an Air Ground Communication Service; an Offshore Communication Service; or, a service within parachute drop zones.

Inappropriate use of aeronautical radio stations could have a direct impact on aviation safety. The ROCC scheme is, therefore, an important tool for ensuring that those who do operate them have the correct skills and knowledge to do so safely.

The intention to introduce a charge for an ROCC was included in the CAA’s 2012/13 Scheme of Charges consultation which began in October 2011 and concluded in January 2012. No adverse comments were received. Previously, the CAA had used income from other areas of industry to cover the cost of administering the qualification. The CAA said it intends to eliminate such cross-charging where possible.

To make the application for an ROCC more efficient the CAA has produced a new form SRG 1413 which will now be the only form used to apply for an ROCC.
