Meet Conservation Heroes in Person

Zoo Visitors Can Meet Indianapolis Prize Winner, Five Finalists and Global Wildlife Ambassador Jane Alexander

INDIANAPOLIS – 2012-10-2 — /travelprnews.com/ — Visitors to the Indianapolis Zoo will have the rare opportunity to meet some of the world’s best known and most respected conservationists at a special event on Sept. 29, 2012. Appearing at Meet a Hero, Be a Hero Day from 10:30am to 12:30pm in the Dolphin Pavilion Gallery at the Zoo will be Dr. Steven Amstrup of Polar Bears International, the winner of the 2012 Indianapolis Prize for animal conservation, as well as the five other Prize finalists — Markus Borner, Frankfort Zoological Society; Carl Jones, Mauritian Wildlife Foundation; Rodney Jackson, Snow Leopard Conservancy; Russell Mittermeier, Conservational International; and Patricia Wright, Institute for the Preservation of Tropical Environments. Also on hand to greet visitors will
be award-winning actress Jane Alexander, who is also committed to the conservation of the world’s endangered wildlife and wild places.

These stars of conservation will be available to chat and sign autographs for guests on their very own collector cards. Sets of these limited edition Conservation Collector Cards are available free to the first 2,000 guests at this fun event. There also will be activities and games for children young and old, teaching visitors how everyone can help save the animals by helping save the
environment. Meet a Hero, Be a Hero Day is free to Zoo members and included with regular Zoo admission.

All of the special guests appearing at this event will also be in attendance on the evening of Sept. 29 at the Indianapolis Prize Gala presented by Cummins Inc. at the JW Marriott Hotel. At this spectacular celebration of the true heroes of conservation, Dr. Amstrup will be presented with the Indianapolis Prize, a check for $100,000 and the Lilly Medal, emblematic of the world’s leading
award for animal conservation. This event is co-hosted by actor Josh Duhamel and television star Saba Douglas-Hamilton. Tickets for the Gala are available online at indianapolisprize.org.
