Marco Polo Plaza, Cebu scoops awards at the recent “Cebu Goes Culinary 2016” hotel competition
Cebu, Philippines, 2016-Aug-27 — /Travel PR News/ — Marco Polo Plaza, Cebu won three Gold medals, two Silver medals, two Bronze medals and eight diplomas in the recently concluded “Cebu Goes Culinary 2016” hotel competition last month.
Held at the Robinsons Galleria the weekend of July 22 and 23, professionals and students in the hospitality industry representing various hotels, resorts and restaurants competed not only with each other but with themselves in creating exceptional original pieces of culinary goodness. This marked the 12th bi-annual event of Cebu Goes Culinary competition organised by the Hotel Resort and Restaurant Association of Cebu (HRRAC). This year’s theme was “Fruits of the Earth.”
Marco Polo Plaza, Cebu excelled throughout the competition: they participated in 17 categories and receiving an award in 15. By the end of the competition, the hotel came in second place: just one point was the difference between Marco Polo and Shangri-la Mactan, who was the overall champion.

Gold medalists were Juanito Abangan for the Set Menu, Niño Compuesto for the Pralines and Toby Tubog and Franklen Peligro for the Jelly Art Competition. Also a silver medalist, Juanito Abangan soared in the Hot Dish category. Loren Escalante, Diogenis Montecalvo and Ann Caryl Gotingco were also awarded with a silver medal for the very stylish and rustic elegant Table Setting Showpiece. Bronze medalists were Luigi Mangubat for Plated Appetizers and Crisanto Palang, Leah Manguilimotan and Samuel Reloj for the Health & Wellness category.
Diploma achievers were Joel Cabellon and Crisanto Palang for the Cold Buffet Platter, Karl Ramos for the Cold Plated Dessert, Jeah Maglasang and Cyril Billones for the Creative Cakes, Rodel Galvez, Cyril Billones and Toby Tubog for the Chocolate Showpiece, Franz Bermudez, Walter Neri, Godfrey Ngujo for the Chef Wars and Loren Escalante, Robert Abadiano and Cliffor Cabahug for the Dream Team Challenge.
The recently concluded Cebu Goes Culinary 2016 was a very memorable and heartwarming experience.
