Mandarin Oriental, Washington D.C. introduces The Empresses of China Package

Hong Kong, China, 2019-Mar-27 — /Travel PR News/ — Mandarin Oriental, Washington D.C. in partnership with the Smithsonian’s Freer|Sackler museum of Asian art is pleased to debut The Empresses of China Package. The offering is an evolution to the hotel’s sponsorship of the exhibition and celebrates the hotel’s many connections to China’s empresses found throughout the property.

On view through June 23, 2019, the exhibit depicts the significance of the Qing empresses and their influence on shaping China’s last dynasty. Most of the artwork is on loan from the Palace Museum in Beijing and has never been exhibited outside of China.

Mandarin Oriental, Washington D.C.’s own empress artwork has been on display since the hotel’s opening in 2004.  A signature painting entitled, “Above Washington, D.C.”, commissioned from Zhong-Yang Huang, depicts Cixi, the last empress of China, on a swing over D.C., blending Eastern and Western cultures. The empress welcomes guests as they arrive and watches over her name sake Empress Lounge. Among the additional artwork on display in the hotel is a collection of contemporary and traditional pieces including 200 exclusive reproductions of pieces that are in the collection at the Freer|Sackler museum.
