2012-12-10 — /travelprnews.com/ — The Maldives Marketing and PR Corporation together with the Maldives tourism industry is currently participating at the Travel Turkey Izmir fair which started in Izmir, Turkey on the 6th of December and ends today, 9th December 2012.16 co-exhibiting partner companies with 24 representatives from the tourism industry of Maldives are being represented at the Maldives Stand.
Travel turkey Izmir is one of the leading tourism fairs in Turkey targeting the Turkish Tourism Industry attracting buyers & purchasers from the main source markets in Europe and Asia. Organized by Hannover-Messe International Istanbul, TURSAB / Turkish Travel Agencies Association and IZFAS Company and sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey, this fair aims to provide crucial information as well as a venue for serious professional networking that result in signed contracts with global deal-makers.
The first three days of the fair will be exclusively for the travel trade professionals offering constructive business meeting possibilities for members of the travel industry from Turkey and all over the world, interested in Turkish tourism. By the end of the first day of the fair, many business meetings were held with Turkish Tour Operators and important contacts were established between the Maldives tourism industry partners and Turkish Operators.
Turkey has a 73.7 million population and GDP growth rate of 11 percent (first quarter of 2011) ranking number 1 in the world, it is also part of G20 major economies. Beyond that, Turkey has a stable economy and the global economic downfall having had very little or no effect on the Turkish economy leading to a tremendous increase in outbound travel which is forecasted to reach 16 million trips in 2016.
4,142 tourist arrivals were recorded from Turkey to Maldives between January to October 2012, an increase of 15.8% compared to the same period of 2011. These figures show that currently the Turkish market is a relatively small market for the Maldives by percentage share.
Nonetheless, with the favorable market conditions and good connectivity established with the commencement of Turkish Airlines scheduled flights this month direct from Istanbul to Male’ flying 5 days a week, there is huge potential for growth. In addition, participation at the Travel Turkey Izmir Fair provides a platform for the Maldives to reach this potential market.
