Lufthansa Cargo promotes social inclusion sourcing its bright yellow lashing straps from Werkstätten für Behinderte Rhein-Main e.V. helping handicapped persons

2013-07-29 — /travelprnews.com/ — The bright yellow lashing straps with which Lufthansa Cargo secures its annual total of around 1.7 million tons of freight, are indispensable for  safe air transport. For more than 30 years the freight airline has been obtaining them from the Werkstätten für Behinderte Rhein-Main e.V. and thus helping many people with a handicap to get a secure job and thus actively promotes social inclusion.

As the largest customer of the organization, Lufthansa Cargo has been creating new perspectives since 1981; with the increased number of straps which the freight airline orders, the number of employees in the workshops have also increased. Currently they produce 250,000 lashing straps annually. This makes professional training and a secure job possible for about 400 handicapped people in the Rhine-Main region. In Mörfelden-Walldorf alone, around 100 people with a handicap are exclusively active for Lufthansa Cargo.

Apart from the lashing straps, the employees in the workshops in Mörfelden-Walldorf, Rüsselsheim and Biebesheim also produce wet freight mats for the transport of small animals and covering sheets for Lufthansa Cargo. All products are produced by the workshop employees according to the valid ISO norms and the high quality standards of Lufthansa Cargo.
