Leeds Bradford International Airport (LBA) expects over 50,000 passengers during the holiday period, its busiest ever Christmas and New Year

Yeadon, UK, 2013-12-23 — /travelprnews.com/ — Leeds Bradford International Airport (LBA) is bracing itself for its busiest ever Christmas and New Year, with more than 50,000 passengers expected to pass through the airport over the holiday period. The festive rush tops off a successful year for the airport which has seen record numbers of passengers pass through its terminal – more than 3.2 million so far.

Thousands of holidaymakers will fly from Yorkshire’s gateway airport over the next two weeks, whether that be to fly home to be with loved ones or to take advantage of the flight and holiday offers to the airport’s widest ever range of sun, ski and city destinations.

The winter hotspots of Tenerife and Lanzarote currently top the destination chart, as holidaymakers go in search of guaranteed sun over the festive season.  Average temperatures can reach 22 degrees in December and January, in stark contrast to the rather cooler temperatures that Yorkshire can look forward to.

For those seeking their fun on the ski slopes this Christmas, Leeds Bradford is offering its widest ever choice of destinations, with Innsbruck the latest to be added to its growing list of ski routes providing easy access to the Tyrol.

Geneva continues to be the most popular ski gateway providing easy access to the French and Swiss Alps.

Other popular domestic destinations flying from Leeds Bradford this Christmas include London Heathrow, Belfast, Glasgow and Aberdeen, whilst Amsterdam, Prague and Paris remain firm favourites for those wanting a city break in Europe.

The airport’s peak travel day is predicted to be Boxing Day.

Tony Hallwood, Aviation Development and Marketing Director at Leeds Bradford Airport, said: “This Christmas will be our busiest ever, as record numbers of passengers take advantage of our widest ever choice of destinations and some truly fantastic offers.

“Whilst many people are jetting off in search of some winter sun or for a spot of skiing, we also look forward to welcoming inbound visitors to Yorkshire, whether they are returning home or spending Christmas in our region enjoying Yorkshire’s famous hospitality.

“Regardless of whether they are coming or going, our airport ambassadors will be on hand to provide a warm welcome to all our passengers over the Christmas period.”
