Indianapolis International Airport welcomes Sun Country Airlines’ services to Minneapolis and Orlando

New nonstop to Minneapolis begins in May, adding flight to Orlando in the fall

INDIANAPOLIS, IN, 2021-Jan-26 — /Travel PR News/ — Sun Country Airlines is coming to the Indianapolis International Airport (IND), bringing additional nonstop flights from Indy to Minneapolis-St. Paul in the summer and Orlando in the fall.

Beginning May 28, 2021, Sun Country will offer flights to Minneapolis twice per week on Mondays and Fridays. On Sept. 2, 2021, the airline will expand its offering to serve both Minneapolis and Orlando.

“Now travelers headed to Minneapolis will have more nonstop options out of Indy, and an additional option in the fall to Orlando – which is Indy’s number-one vacation destination,” said Mario Rodriguez, executive director of the Indianapolis Airport Authority. “These flights tie in perfectly for those ready for a summer vacation.”

Rodriguez said the IAA has been working to bring Sun Country to Indy for years, and a conversation at last February’s Routes Americas conference held in Indianapolis moved the deal closer to the dotted line.

“Sun Country has provided private charter service from Indy before, but this will be the first time they are operating scheduled commercial service,” Rodriguez said.

Sun Country currently operates ultra-low-cost flights on 86 routes to more than 50 popular destinations between the United States, Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean. The airline is based in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area, with operations in Dallas/Ft. Worth and Portland, Oregon.

“We’re excited to bring our commitment to great customer service and affordability to Indianapolis,” said Sun Country Chief Executive Officer Jude Bricker. “We have no doubt that IND passengers will enjoy our Midwest hospitality, comfortable amenities such as free streaming in-flight entertainment and reclining seats, all at ultra-low fares.”

Health and Safety Precautions

In addition to requiring a pre-travel health screening and face coverings to be worn while boarding and inflight, Sun Country has equipped its aircraft with state-of-the-art circulation systems that use a high-efficiency filter to circulate the air and remove more than 99% of airborne particles. Sun Country also follows the CDC guidelines for cleaning and disinfecting the surfaces on their aircraft using disinfectant specifically designed to eliminate viruses and bacteria (including coronavirus).

“Sun Country has been connecting folks to the people and places that are important to them for more than 35 years, and we plan to continue doing so,” said Bricker. “Whether you plan to fly with us soon or are looking forward to taking a much-needed vacation in the future when the time is right, we will be here to offer the safe, affordable and reliable service you have come to expect from Sun Country Airlines.”
