From Private Suites to Live Dining Korean Air Elevates Lounge Travel at Its Seoul Hub

(NEWS) SEOUL, South Korea, 2026-Apr-16 — /Travel PR News/ — Airlines are continuing to invest heavily in ground experience as part of broader premium strategies, with lounge infrastructure becoming a key differentiator in competitive international hubs.

Korean Air has completed a multi-year overhaul of its lounge network at Incheon International Airport Terminal 2, culminating in the opening of its redesigned First Class and Prestige Class West lounges in mid-April. The project follows a 42-month redevelopment programme backed by an investment of approximately KRW 110 billion, significantly expanding both capacity and service offerings.

Based on details shared in Korean Air’s official announcement, the upgrade more than doubles its lounge footprint at the terminal, increasing total space from just over 5,000 to more than 12,000 square metres, while seating capacity rises from under 900 to over 1,500. The expansion is intended to accommodate growing passenger volumes, particularly ahead of Korean Air’s planned integration with Asiana Airlines.

The newly opened First Class lounge has been designed around privacy and exclusivity, with a layout that includes private suites alongside a central lounge space. Interiors draw on traditional Korean architectural elements, combining natural materials with curated artwork from both international and Korean artists. Dining is delivered through an à la carte service featuring Korean cuisine, complemented by premium tableware and a focus on high-end presentation.

In contrast, the Prestige Class West lounge has been developed as a large-scale, high-capacity facility, accommodating more than 400 passengers. The space incorporates buffet dining with live cooking stations, a full-service bar, and dedicated zones for work and relaxation. Design elements align with the airline’s premium cabin branding, while digital art installations add a dynamic visual component to the environment.

The latest openings build on earlier phases of the redevelopment, including the launch of the Prestige East (Left) Lounge in January, which introduced more experiential elements such as interactive dining concepts and themed passenger zones. These additions marked a shift toward more engaging pre-flight environments, particularly for leisure travellers and families.

The redevelopment forms part of a wider transformation of Korean Air’s lounge offering at Incheon, which now includes seven distinct facilities across Terminal 2. Earlier phases of the project introduced additional experiential concepts, including interactive culinary zones and themed spaces aimed at enhancing passenger engagement beyond traditional lounge services.

Digital integration has also been a focus, with features such as advance lounge reservations, real-time occupancy tracking and mobile queuing designed to improve passenger flow and reduce congestion during peak travel periods.

The investment reflects a broader trend across the aviation industry, where airlines are placing increased emphasis on pre-flight experience as part of their premium value proposition. As long-haul travel demand continues to recover, lounge environments are being repositioned not only as waiting areas, but as extensions of the onboard experience.

Korean Air has indicated that further upgrades are planned at other key locations, including Gimpo International Airport and John F. Kennedy International Airport, as it works toward delivering a more consistent premium product across its global network.
