European airline CityJet has launched its first route into Germany from London City Airport [LCY]
2012-11-03 — /travelprnews.com/ — The inaugural flight departed from LCY to Münster-Osnabrück on Monday [29 October]. The new service will offer daily flights to the northern city of Münster, which is the sustainable energy and green capital of Germany and neighbour to the university cities of Osnabrück and Dortmund.
Matthew Hall, Chief Commercial Officer at London City Airport said: “We are delighted that CityJet has chosen to launch its first route into Germany from LCY and in doing so has added to the choice available to our regular travellers, as well as the new passengers that this route will attract.”
The new route increases CityJet’s network to 19 European destinations across Belgium, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and the UK.
Christine Ourmières, CEO of CityJet said: “Münster is at the forefront of hosting conferences and events for the green technologies industry. By starting services to Münster, CityJet is expanding its appeal to the UK MICE industry as well as facilitating a new trade corridor for the rapidly expanding British green technologies and renewable energies market.
“There is also strong inbound demand for a direct route to the heart of London from Münster given the large number of SMEs based in the airport’s catchment area. In addition, our new route will open up the cultural and historic heart of the Westphalia region of Germany to families and couples looking for a relaxed weekend break.”

Editors note
London City Airport (LCY) is the only London airport situated in London itself, just three miles from Canary Wharf, seven miles from the City and 10 miles from London’s West End and linked to all via the Docklands Light Railway. Infrastructure improvements in 2011 catered for 3 million passengers and 70,000 movements, while in 2012 LCY celebrated its millionth flight, 35 millionth passenger and 25 years of operation. LCY offers a unique 20/10 proposition – a 20 minute check in, from door to gate, and a 10 minute arrival, from tarmac to train. 10 airlines fly out of LCY, serving 42 destinations, including Dublin, Madrid and Geneva. Seven new destinations were added in 2012, and the airport has permission to increase its operation to 120,000 movements per annum.
