KCI Airport Passenger Traffic Down 10.2 Percent in September

2012-11-03 — /travelprnews.com/ — The City of Kansas City, Mo., Aviation Department reports that Kansas City International Airport recorded 755,073 passengers arriving and departing through its gates in September, which represents a decrease of 10.2 percent from September 2011. Passenger boardings at KCI were down 10.4 percent, with a total of 377,984 during September. For the year to date, boardings at KCI totaled 3,715,558, a decrease of 2.1 percent from the same period last year.

The number of peak-day scheduled aircraft departures for September was 177. Service was offered to 43 nonstop markets. There was an average of 34,722 arriving and departing seats available in the market each day, down 5.4 percent from last year.

“The decreases in passenger statistics relate to decreases in monthly airline departures and available seats in the market,” said Tom McKenna, assistant director of aviation – marketing for the Aviation Department. “This trend began in the summer and should continue for the next few months and should move upward again in spring 2013.”

Air cargo tonnages, which consist of both freight and mail transported by air, for all carriers at KCI were up 1.5 percent in September. For the year to date, air cargo at KCI is up 2.4 percent from the same period last year. Air freight handled at KCI during September amounted to 16 million pounds, which represents a year-over-year increase of 3.5 percent. Air mail for September was up 22.6 percent from September 2011. The all-cargo carriers reported 4 daily departures for September.
