(NEWS) LONDON, UK, 2026-Jun-17 — /Travel PR News/ — Stockholm’s hotel scene is continuing to move beyond the traditional city-centre model, with new lifestyle projects following the capital’s expanding waterfront districts and regenerated urban neighbourhoods.
IHG Hotels & Resorts is bringing Hotel Indigo to Sweden for the first time with the signing of Hotel Indigo Stockholm – Kvarnholmen, according to a press release published by IHG. Scheduled to open in 2029, the 232-room property will be located in Kvarnholmen, a waterfront district in Nacka on Stockholm’s eastern shore.
The hotel will be developed by Kvarnholmen Utveckling, a joint venture between Peab and JM, and will be leased and operated by 1912 Hotels under a franchise agreement with IHG. The project marks a new step in IHG’s Luxury & Lifestyle expansion in the Nordics.
Kvarnholmen has been undergoing a wider transformation from an industrial area into a mixed-use waterfront neighbourhood shaped by modern Scandinavian design, residential development, public spaces and cultural activity. The location gives the future hotel access to both central Stockholm and the Stockholm archipelago, positioning it for leisure and business travellers looking beyond the city’s more established hotel districts.
Hotel Indigo’s brand model is built around neighbourhood identity, with each property designed to reflect the culture, history and character of its local area. For Kvarnholmen, that is expected to mean a design-led hotel drawing on the district’s industrial heritage, waterfront setting and evolving creative scene.
Hotel Indigo Stockholm – Kvarnholmen will include a restaurant and bar, wellness and recreational facilities, 150 square metres of meeting space and social areas. Plans also include a rooftop pool and terrace, spa and gym facilities, and an internal atrium with green space designed to support both guest use and local community integration.
The signing adds to IHG’s growing presence in Sweden, which currently includes voco Stockholm – Kista and Ruby Frida in Stockholm. Across the Nordics, IHG has 13 open and pipeline properties, while Hotel Indigo now counts more than 325 open and pipeline hotels globally across almost 50 countries.
