Heritage meets modern luxury as Mandarin Oriental, Vienna opens in restored Art Nouveau courthouse

(NEWS) HONG KONG, 2025-Sep-12 — /Travel PR News/ — Mandarin Oriental is expanding its European portfolio with the highly anticipated opening of its first hotel in Austria, Mandarin Oriental, Vienna, on 20 October 2025. Located in the city’s historic First District on Riemergasse, the property brings together the grandeur of Vienna’s architectural heritage and the brand’s signature style of understated luxury and legendary service. Housed in a heritage-listed Art Nouveau courthouse originally designed by Alfred Keller in 1908, the building has been meticulously restored, blending historic charm with contemporary design.

The hotel features 138 accommodations, including 86 rooms and 52 suites, three of which are Mandarin Signature Suites alongside a grand Royal Suite. Each room pays homage to Viennese Art Nouveau while offering modern comforts, light-filled interiors, and elegant finishes. For events and gatherings, the property offers seven multifunctional boardrooms and a 140-square-metre ballroom, combining flexibility with a refined sense of sophistication.

Mandarin Oriental, Vienna is also introducing an ambitious culinary offering under Executive Chef Thomas Seifried. The property will be home to four distinct dining venues, including Le Sept, a fine dining seafood restaurant combining French culinary techniques with Asian accents; Atelier 7 – Brasserie, an all-day dining concept blending Art Nouveau style with international comfort food and Austrian-Asian influences; Atelier 7 – The Café, reimagining Vienna’s coffeehouse culture with artisanal pastries and fine teas; and Atelier 7 – Izakaya and Bar, a lively space where Japonisme meets Viennese elegance through creative cocktails and Japanese-inspired dishes.

The hotel also introduces The Spa at Mandarin Oriental, Vienna, a serene wellness retreat offering holistic therapies, locally inspired rituals, an indoor pool, a fitness centre, and a VIP treatment suite. Designed as both a haven for international travellers and a gathering place for Viennese locals, Mandarin Oriental, Vienna positions itself as a destination that balances heritage, culinary innovation, and wellness in one of Europe’s most culturally rich cities.

The arrival of Mandarin Oriental, Vienna comes at a time when the city’s hospitality scene is undergoing a wave of renewal and expansion. The recently reopened Anantara Palais Hansen Vienna Hotel on the Ringstrasse introduces 152 rooms and suites, Michelin-starred dining at Edvard, and Vienna’s largest Presidential Suite, while Radisson Blu Das Triest Hotel has also reemerged after a major renovation with refined rooms, Bistrot Bertarelli 1894, and the iconic Silver Bar. In the city’s business hub, Choice Hotels EMEA and CPI Hotels have launched the Clarion Hotel Vienna South, offering 201 modern rooms, panoramic dining at TwentyTwo, and extensive conference facilities. Looking ahead, 2025 will also see the debut of A by Adina Vienna Danube, TFE Hotels’ first property outside Australia, bringing premium apartment-style accommodation, a panoramic infinity pool, and contemporary design to Austria’s tallest residential tower. Together, these developments underscore Vienna’s growing reputation as a European capital of luxury, design, and innovation—an ideal backdrop for Mandarin Oriental’s debut in Austria.
