Domestic & International Departing Passengers Asked to Arrive Early due to Ongoing Construction
Nova Scotia, Canada, 2018-Sep-27 — /Travel PR News/ — As part of its Master Plan and to accommodate passenger growth, Halifax International Airport Authority (HIAA) continues to renovate the airport to enhance security and improve the passenger experience at Halifax Stanfield. With construction continuing at security screening, domestic and international departing passengers are asked to arrive early to allow ample time to clear security.
HIAA, in concert with the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA), is pleased to announce that Halifax Stanfield will be receiving CATSA Plus security screening lines. CATSA Plus is an innovative concept that combines the latest technology and processes. It involves replacing the standard screening lines with high-performance lines, designed to improve customer service and passenger flow while also enhancing security effectiveness.
Passenger Impact
Beginning today, September 26, and using a rolling schedule, two of CATSA’s six regular security screening lines will be out of service to make way for the new CATSA Plus equipment. To maintain capacity to screen passengers at current levels, HIAA is creating two CATSA pre-board security screening lines on the level above to be used when needed. Passengers will be directed to the temporary screening area as necessary. These renovations are expected to continue for approximately six months.
We ask domestic and international departing passengers to plan ahead and allow ample time to make their way through security screening. After check-in at the airport, it’s advisable to proceed immediately to CATSA’s security screening and allow a minimum of an hour after check-in to help prevent a missed flight. Please note that passengers travelling non-stop to the US are not impacted by this construction.
Passengers can view current CATSA wait times at Halifax Stanfield at https://www.catsa-acsta.gc.ca/en/airport/halifax-stanfield-international-airport, however, the queue fluctuates and can build quickly, particularly given ongoing construction.
We have a larger number of flights at peak times of the day, which may create longer lines at CATSA security screening. Our peak times are as follows:
- Early morning from 6:30-8 a.m.
- Afternoon from 12-1 p.m. and 2-5 p.m.
- Evening from 9:15-11:30 p.m.
