Gateway Airport Authority will be conducting an emergency response exercise on Tuesday, April 23, 2013

Event will test emergency response plans

MESA, Ariz., 2013-04-22 — /travelprnews.com/ — Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport Authority will be conducting a triennial emergency response exercise at the Airport on Tuesday, April 23, 2013, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.

The realistic exercise is a Federal Aviation Administration certification requirement to test airfield disaster preparedness and response against current response plans and capabilities. Approximately 80 volunteers will play the role of casualties.

“Maintaining the highest levels of preparedness requires regular exercises to ensure that all responding agencies work efficiently as a team,” said Margi Evanson, Interim Manager – Operations. “Disaster simulations like our triennial exercise keep the Airport and our partners ready in the event of an actual emergency.”

Participating agencies will include U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Federal Aviation Administration, Transportation Security Administration, City of Mesa Fire and Police, Town of Queen Creek Fire, Town of Gilbert Fire, Southwest Ambulance, American Red Cross, and user airlines.

All flight operations will continue as normal during the exercise. Motorists are asked to be aware of additional emergency vehicles and security personnel along Ray and Sossaman Roads.
