(NEWS) MEGÈVE, France, 2026-Jun-2 — /Travel PR News/ — For more than a century, Megève has occupied a special place in the story of Alpine tourism. Originally developed in the 1920s as an alternative to the grand winter resorts of Switzerland, the destination has evolved into one of France’s most prestigious mountain retreats, attracting travelers drawn to its combination of heritage, gastronomy, outdoor pursuits and understated luxury.
That reputation has now received further reinforcement with the recognition of Four Seasons Resort Megève as a Palace-designated property, one of the highest honours in French hospitality. According to a press release published by Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, the distinction was awarded by Atout France, which reserves the designation for hotels considered among the country’s most exceptional hospitality experiences.
The Palace distinction goes beyond traditional hotel classification systems. It recognises properties that combine outstanding service, distinctive character, cultural significance and a strong connection to their destination. Only a limited number of hotels across France have achieved the status, making it one of the most sought-after recognitions in the luxury hospitality sector.
For Four Seasons Resort Megève, the award reflects not only the property itself but also its close ties to the history of Mont d’Arbois and the wider development of Megève as a luxury destination. The area’s transformation began in the early twentieth century when Noémie de Rothschild envisioned creating a world-class winter sports resort in the French Alps. Her efforts helped establish Megève as one of Europe’s leading mountain destinations, laying foundations that continue to shape the region today.
The modern resort represents a continuation of that legacy. Developed under the leadership of Ariane de Rothschild and designed in collaboration with architect Pierre-Yves Rochon, the property was conceived as a contemporary interpretation of Alpine luxury. Rather than relying on traditional notions of grandeur, the design emphasises craftsmanship, natural materials, light-filled interiors and a strong connection to the surrounding mountain landscape.
Today, the resort serves as a year-round destination. During winter, guests benefit from direct access to the slopes, while summer brings opportunities to explore hiking trails, mountain scenery and one of the Alps’ most established golf courses. The property also features one of the region’s largest spas and a collection of restaurants that contribute to Megève’s reputation as a culinary destination.
The recognition also strengthens Four Seasons’ position within France’s luxury hotel market. With the addition of Megève, the brand now operates three Palace-designated properties in the country, joining Four Seasons Hotel George V and Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat, A Four Seasons Hotel. Together, they represent three distinct expressions of French luxury hospitality, spanning urban Paris, the Mediterranean coastline and the Alpine mountains.
As travelers increasingly seek hotels that offer a strong sense of place alongside world-class service, distinctions such as the Palace designation continue to serve as a benchmark for excellence. For Megève, the latest recognition further reinforces its standing among Europe’s leading mountain destinations and highlights the enduring appeal of Alpine hospitality at its highest level.
