From Fairways to Luxury Decks Hapag-Lloyd Cruises Refines Its Golf & Cruise Concept

(NEWS) HAMBURG, Germany, 2026-Jun-2 — /Travel PR News/ — Golf and cruising have long attracted similar audiences: travellers looking for comfort, flexibility and the opportunity to explore multiple destinations without sacrificing quality experiences. Increasingly, cruise operators are finding ways to combine the two, creating itineraries that allow guests to play renowned courses around the world while enjoying the convenience of a luxury voyage.

That concept sits at the heart of Hapag-Lloyd Cruises’ Golf & Cruise programme, which has been refined over more than 25 years and is now placing a stronger emphasis on personalised golf experiences both at sea and ashore. According to Hapag-Lloyd Cruises, the programme combines access to internationally recognised golf courses with the luxury cruise experience aboard the EUROPA and EUROPA 2.

The programme is designed for golfers of varying skill levels, from beginners looking for an introduction to the sport to experienced players seeking coaching and access to well-known courses in destinations around the world. Guests can either book dedicated Golf & Cruise themed voyages or add golf packages to regular cruises aboard both ships.

A key feature of the concept is its flexibility. Golf simulators on board allow guests to continue training during sea days, offering virtual rounds on international courses alongside technical analysis supported by high-speed video technology. Guests also have access to a PGA golf professional who remains on board year-round to provide coaching and instruction.

For dedicated Golf & Cruise departures, the experience extends well beyond transportation to the course. Packages typically include support from PGA professionals, driving range warm-ups, green fees, transfers, equipment logistics, presentations, video analysis sessions, club handling services and social events such as welcome receptions and dinners with the golf professionals.

Among the featured voyages planned for 2027 is a twelve-day itinerary from Mallorca to Tenerife accompanied by golf professional Stefan Quirmbach. The cruise combines golf experiences in southern Spain, Morocco and the Canary Islands, including the distinctive course on La Gomera.

Another highlighted sailing in early 2028 takes guests from Colombo to Singapore under the guidance of golf professional André Sallmann. The itinerary focuses on courses in Sri Lanka and Malaysia, including Shangri-La’s Golf & Country Club in Hambantota, the Rainforest Course at The Els Club Teluk Datai on Langkawi and Palm Garden Golf Club near Kuala Lumpur.

The wider programme spans destinations across Europe, Africa, Asia, the Caribbean and the Mediterranean through 2027 and 2028, reflecting the growing popularity of travel experiences built around personal interests rather than traditional sightseeing alone.

For Hapag-Lloyd Cruises, golf represents one of several specialist themes being integrated into luxury cruising. As travellers increasingly seek customised experiences tailored to specific hobbies and passions, programmes such as Golf & Cruise are becoming a way for cruise lines to offer deeper engagement with destinations while appealing to guests who want more than a conventional voyage.
