But this hospitality specialist has spent most of his career in Asia. “My first visit was in 2000, the second was in 2002 and third was 2004 – all for holidays. I was immediately amazed by the richness of the culture in Asia and the friendliness of the people. When I went home to Germany, I definitely wanted to return to Asia, and I came here to work in 2005.” It was while managing Biscotti Restaurant atFour Seasons Hotel Bangkok in 2008 that he met his future wife. “My connection with Asia is now definitely sealed!”

Most recently the Assistant Director of Food and Beverage atFour Seasons Hotel Mumbai, Jan-Peer was excited to come to Bali and join the pre-opening team for this prestigious new restaurant.

Featuring an eclectic international menu, this all-day venue offers casual lunches with shared plates of sushi, salads and wood-fired pizzas, while in the evening, it transforms into one of Bali’s most sophisticated dining experiences.

As General Manager of the restaurant, Jan-Peer is responsible for the entire operation, from detailed staff training and ensuring guests needs are met to menu selections, working closely with Executive Chef Greg Bunt.

“It was very exhilarating to be part of the planning process, helping to create a personality for this new restaurant,” Jan-Peer says. “We want Sundara to feel fun, relaxed and very social. We expect it to attract a sophisticated crowd from beyond the Resort and right across the island. We have the most delicious food, plus innovative wine and cocktail selections. And of course, the service is friendly, genuine and polished, so our guests always know they are atFour Seasons.”

Jan-Peer is loving the chance to live in Bali. “For me, Bali is always buzzing. There’s always something happening.” He enjoys everything from hopping through the culinary scene in Bali to gazing at the peaceful view of rice plantations. But he’s especially glad that German football is available on Indonesian TV, so he can continue to follow his favourite team, Bayern Munich.
