Doncaster Sheffield Airport, Dashing Through The Sky This Christmas

2012-12-11 — /travelprnews.com/ — South Yorkshire folk heading for a Christmas getaway will be dashing through the skies, not the snow (we hope!) this December from Doncaster Sheffield Airport.

The South Yorkshire airport is once again gearing up for the Christmas and New Year ‘getaway’ with around 14,000 passengers expected to pass through the terminal building over the festive holiday period (21 Dec – 3 Jan).

The traditional Christmas getaway is expected to start towards the end of next week as the school term ends and families from across the region head off on flights from Doncaster Sheffield Airport to seek winter sun, visit relatives, go skiing or look for Christmas and New Year festivities across Europe.

With 17 destinations on offer from the Airport in December, popular destinations for passengers departing from this Christmas and New Year are expected to be a mix of Winter Sun in the Canary Islands and Egypt, skiing holidays in Italy and people visiting friends and family in Poland.

To ensure a smooth send off over the festive season, Airport Management are reminding all passengers of the security restrictions that still apply and are urging passengers to think carefully about what items they are intending to pack in hand luggage – especially those who are travelling with presents for friends and relatives. Restrictions on liquids carried in hand luggage are still in place and can cause disruption for passengers.

All items in hand luggage, including wrapped Christmas presents, are subject to search as part of the current aviation security measures that are in place at all UK Airports. To avoid disappointment at the security search point and to help keep queues to a minimum, passengers are being asked to travel with their presents unwrapped if they are to be carried in hand luggage.

Steve Gill, Airport Director said: “The choice of affordable flights to a number of destinations from Doncaster Sheffield Airport means that we expect the Christmas and New Year period to be busy once again.”

“We’re asking passengers to come prepared and to think about what they are carrying in their hand luggage. We want all our passengers to enjoy the start of their journey particularly at this time of year and with a bit of forward planning we hope passengers will get their Christmas holidays off to a great start.”
