British Airways thanks customers and colleagues for helping raise £20 million for Flying Start

LONDON, UK, 2018-Nov-21 — /Travel PR News/ — British Airways has taken on a nationwide cupcake tour to thank customers and colleagues in the UK regions for their part in helping to raise a phenomenal £20 million in eight years for Flying Start, the global charity partnership with Comic Relief.

Members of the airline’s community investment team have visited Manchester, Newcastle, Cardiff and Glasgow to present roadshows on the difference Flying Start projects have made to disadvantaged and vulnerable children and young people in the UK and around the world.

They also handed out special edition cupcakes and merchandise to thank people for helping British Airways hit the £20 million landmark, two years ahead of the 2020 target.

Thanks to the hard work of staff and generosity of customers almost 630,000 young people have benefited from Comic Relief partnership projects.

In Manchester the team visited the British Airways Call Centre in Didsbury where Flying Start champions and colleagues have held a number of fund raising activities including football matches and fun days.

Newcastle Call Centre staff also enjoyed a flying cupcake visit, served from aircraft trollies, to thank them for their fund raising which has included food festivals and football tournaments.

Fund raising events in Cardiff have included curry days, mini Olympics, half marathons and fun days and in Glasgow there was the annual Flying Start Ball amongst other activities.

Mary Barry, British Airways’ community investment manager, said: “Without the tremendous support of our colleagues and customers we would never have achieved this amount of money raised two years ahead of schedule. Our teams across our regional hubs have made a tremendous contribution to our £20 million fundraising achievement, we cannot thank them and our customers enough for their generosity and we wanted to thank them personally for their important contribution.”
