Book early for Christmas train travel

2012-10-16 — /travelprnews.com/ — Virgin Trains is urging passengers to book their tickets for travel over the Christmas period as soon as possible to secure the best prices and to ensure they have reserved seats during this very busy travel time. Full details of most train times and fares together with booking facilities are now available on line at virgintrains.com up to and including 28 December. Alternatively, customers can call: 0871 977 4222 or visit any Virgin Trains ticket office.

Example prices for Advance single tickets from London Euston include £7.50 to Birmingham, £12.00 to Liverpool or Manchester, and £40.50 to Glasgow.

Despite the fact that there remains some uncertainty over who will be operating the West Coast franchise from 9 December all tickets purchased before this date will be valid for travel on the appropriate day(s) over Christmas and passengers can book their festive journeys now with complete confidence.

Apart from 25 and 26 December when there will be no trains, all stations will remain open throughout the holiday period although there will on some days be significant alterations to services due to route improvement work. In particular, whilst full normal services will run on 21 December and during the majority of the day on 22 December, on 23 and 24 December there will be a very restricted level of service to and from London Euston due to a major re-signalling scheme being carried out in the Bletchley area.

This combined with the usual earlier shut down means that on 24 December last services on many West Coast routes will run much earlier than normal and it is very important that passengers carefully check train times with a view to using alternative routes where possible.
