Belmond Maroma Resort & Spa on Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula launches ‘Food, Fashion and Fitness Getaway’ from June 19 to 22, 2014

Yucatán Peninsula, Mexico, 2014-5-15 — /Travel PR News/ — Belmond Maroma Resort & Spa on Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula has launched a ‘Food, Fashion and Fitness Getaway’ from Thursday 19 – Sunday 22 June to immerse guests in gastronomy, style and wellbeing. Targeting both fitness fanatics and those keen step-up their exercise regime, the three-night break includes an organic cookery class, fashion tips and fitness sessions on the beach.

Nestled in verdant jungle beside a white sandy beach, the award-winning Belmond Maroma Resort & Spa offers pure escapism with a touch of Mayan magic. This secluded paradise is a haven of wellbeing where guests can start the day with a rejuvenating yoga class and end it with a purifying session in a traditional temazcal sauna.

The ‘Food, Fashion and Fitness Getaway’ will be hosted by three experts – high-end fashion designer Rubin Singer, professional triathlete and fitness instructor Zack Schares and the hotel’s Executive Chef Juan Pablo, who prepares fresh Mexican cuisine with an elegant twist. The long weekend includes three nights’ accommodation with à la carte breakfast, a daily programme of activities, use of the fitness centre and wet areas of Kinan Spa and 20% off spa treatments.

After settling in and enjoying a welcome cocktail on Thursday, guests will be put through their paces on Friday with a morning run through the hotel grounds and along its idyllic white-sand beach. Next is a bootcamp-style water aerobics class followed by an organic Mexican cooking lesson at Aldea Maya, a purpose-built Mayan village where dishes are prepared in clay pans over an open fire.

That evening guests will feast on dairy, gluten, and additive-free healthy treats during a ‘Chef’s Table’, prepared using traditional techniques and focusing on the five main ingredients of Mexican cuisine: corn, tomato, beans, chile and squash. During the meal, Chef Juan will talk the group through delicious dishes such as ‘Tostada de Tinga’ with shredded chicken, caramelised onions, chipotle and spices; lion fish cooked in yellow mole with vegetables, green tomatillo and acuyo; and roast Tizimin lamb with black bean reduction, mint, red onion and citrus.

Saturday will begin with another invigorating morning run, followed by a jungle and beach obstacle course, a game of beach volleyball and a well-earned cocktail on the sand. The weekend will end on Sunday with a challenging mini triathlon hosted by Zack before the group departs for home.

Guests who aren’t yet ready to leave can extend their visit and experience Belmond Maroma Resort & Spa’s acclaimed ‘Noche de Cantina’*, a night of fun and folklore based on traditional Mexican bars where families and friends gathered in the 1950s to play cards, eat and drink. Accompanied by iconic local beverages such as homemade beer, tequila, mescal and pulque, an authentic menu of home-style appetisers called ‘botanas’ is served as Mexican culture is brought to life with vibrant music and dancing.

Throughout the weekend, Rubin Singer will mingle with the group and share his insight into fashion and trends. A third-generation couturier based in New York, Rubin worked for brands including Oscar de la Renta before establishing his own label, and his edgy and sophisticated creations are favoured by celebrity stylists, editors and socialites worldwide.

Prices for the three-night ‘Food, Fashion and Fitness Getaway’ start from $1,671 (approx. £989) including taxes in a Deluxe Garden View Room. To book, emailreservaciones@maromahotel.com or call +52 998 872 8222. For more information on Belmond Maroma Resort & Spa, visit BELMOND.COM.
