Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Key Disciplines
for Careers in Aviation and Maritime
BOSTON, 2013-04-04 — /travelprnews.com/ — More than 900 area students attended the Aviation & Maritime STEM Education Expo at Boston Logan International Airport on Wednesday April 3. The Expo is a dynamic educational event where representatives from industry, government and academia introduced students and educators from 24 Greater Boston area schools to the opportunities and experiences offered by the aviation, maritime and transportation industries.
More than 30 static displays and information booths representing various aspects of the industries served as the backdrop for the event along with 11 aircraft and various airport operations vehicles, held at the Delta Airlines hangar. The Expo started more than 19 years ago as a collaborative effort sponsored by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Massport.
“Our goal with the Expo is to get students dreaming and thinking about careers in transportation,” said Massport Acting Port Director Deborah Hadden. “The Expo is a multi-faceted event that brings together students from the Greater Boston area to hear from aviation, maritime and transportation professionals. I thank the exhibitors, and my Massport colleagues in Aviation and Diversity for their work to ignite the imagination and passion of the next generation of transportation professionals.”

Boston Logan is the Air Line Pilot Association’s Airport of the Year for 2008 because of its commitment to safety. Over the past decade, the airport spent $4.5 billion on a modernization program that includes new terminals, public transportation access, parking facilities, roadways and airport concessions, and has been transformed into a world-class 21st Century facility. The airport generates $7 billion in total economic impact each year.
