BUDAPEST, Hungary, 2018-Dec-07 — /Travel PR News/ — AMS, the company providing the assistance service for persons with reduced mobility (PRM) at Budapest Airport, has commissioned three new ambulances operating with compressed natural gas. The Airport Medical Service helped more than fifty thousand PRMs cover the distance between the terminal and the aircraft last year.
Three brand new Fiat Ducato ambulance vehicles have entered service at Budapest Airport. That in itself would not be big news, but since they operate with compressed natural gas (CNG), this is a significant development. The Airport Medical Service replaced diesel ambulances with the new vehicles, which operate with much smaller environmental burdens. Since compressed natural gas turns into carbon dioxide and water vapor almost completely following combustion, the harmful emissions level of such vehicles is only about ten percent of diesel vehicles. This has a beneficial effect on air quality at the airport, and is a step forward in combating climate change.
Budapest Airport launched its Greenairport Program years ago, with the aim of reducing the environmental burdens generated by the operation of the airport, primarily the carbon footprint. The operator then sought to convince as many airport partners as possible to join the program. It was as part of this scheme that an increasing number of electric vehicles and gas-powered dollies appeared at the airport. Now the ambulances used to transport PRMs have also joined the green fleet.
“We welcome this voluntary investment by AMS, whereby they are putting natural gas-powered vehicles into service at Budapest Airport, thus also supporting the implementation of our Greenairport Program,” said Gábor Szarvas, director community affairs, environment, health and safety for Budapest Airport, during the handover of the ambulances. He added that partners are undertaking significant investments to make tangible contributions to the cleanliness of airport operation.
“AMS spent no less than 30 million HUF on the procurement of the new vehicles, whereby we are not only protecting the environment, but also providing better service quality for passengers at the airport. This is necessary also because with the dynamic traffic growth, our tasks are becoming more and more complex as well, and our vehicles are in heavier use than before. This year we reached the threshold of having had more than seven thousand PRM customers in a single month. Our objective is to replace our conventional vehicles with environmentally friendly technology,” emphasized Gábor Agócs, the managing director of AMS.
