Amadeus announces long-term partnership renewal with easyJet

Agreement gives Amadeus-connected travel agencies continued access to easyJet’s range of content through the Amadeus system to drive business bookings

MADRID, SPAIN, 2016-Aug-18 — /Travel PR News/ — easyJet, Europe’s leading airline, and Amadeus (IBEX:AMS.MC), a leading provider of advanced technology solutions for the global travel industry, today announce the renewal of a long-term partnership, giving Amadeus subscribers continued access to easyJet’s range of fares.

The partnership will support the airline’s evolving growth strategy, which includes a focus on business travel, and ensures that corporate travellers in particular can easily access and book the airline’s range of business friendly products such as Inclusive and Flexi Fares. easyJet and Amadeus originally began working together in 2007. In subsequent years, easyJet became the pilot carrier for Amadeus’ innovative light ticketing functionality, which allows travel agencies to book easyJet like any other carrier whilst the airline uses XML-technology to connect to Amadeus.

Through the continued use of this technology, easyJet will sell its range of products and seats. Amadeus has also been instrumental in supporting easyJet’s growth of GDS-based bookings on Amadeus year-over-year. Anthony Drury, Head of Business for easyJet said: “easyJet was one of the first airlines in the low-cost sector to make its inventory available to travel agents in the indirect channel. It remains of paramount importance to continue our relationship with Amadeus whilst leveraging the power of light ticketing and utilising key products like inclusive fares and corporate negotiated fares. ”

“Around 20% of easyJet passengers travel for business and we continue to deliver on the strategy we launched in 2010 to increase our appeal to the business travel sector.”

Decius Valmorbida, Vice President, Distribution Marketing at Amadeus added: “easyJet and Amadeus have seen great results working together over the last nine years, and we’re delighted to be continuing our partnership. easyJet has benefited from our unparalleled network of corporations, travel management companies, travel agents and market reach, helping the airline grow in the business travel space. Together, we have fostered new adoption initiatives and innovative technology unique to the industry. As travel evolves, we look forward to working with forward-thinking players like easyJet.”

easyJet operates the leading European network flying on more of the top 100 routes than any other airline and its low fares, industry-leading punctuality and friendly service have all been important factors in helping it to both attract and retain new business customers.

Amadeus partners with more than 90 low-cost and hybrid carriers today, making 80% of total global LCC and hybrid seats available in Amadeus. Low-cost and hybrid carrier bookings in the Amadeus system increased 17% year-on-year in the first half of 2016.
