Air Cargo Germany to begin service at Hartsfield-Jackson

Airport also announces plans for a fourth cargo facility

ATLANTA – 2012-10-5 — /travelprnews.com/ — Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport announced on Tuesday that Air Cargo Germany will begin service there and that it is planning to build a fourth cargo facility.

Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed revealed the news at the Georgia World Congress Center, where Hartsfield-Jackson is hosting the 26th International Air Cargo Forum and Exposition. The biennial forum of The International Air Cargo Association (TIACA) is the world’s largest gathering of the air cargo community.

“We are very excited about the continued growth of cargo here in Atlanta,” Reed said. “We have been a major transportation hub since the 1800s and will continue to lead our region as a logistics center for many years to come.”

Air Cargo Germany will begin twice-weekly service at Hartsfield-Jackson on October 11, with Thursday night and Sunday morning flights to Frankfurt. The flights will be aboard the airline’s Boeing 747F aircraft.

“We are pleased to welcome Air Cargo Germany to Hartsfield-Jackson,” said Aviation General Manager Louis Miller. “Air Cargo Germany is working to expand its connections between North America and Europe, and Hartsfield-Jackson serves as the perfect global gateway to help achieve this goal.”

The flights will connect cargo with locations in Russia, Central Asia and Africa as well as throughout Europe by truck.

The mayor also announced that, pending approval by the Atlanta City Council, the Airport will build a new, state-of-the-art cargo facility. The facility, which could be open as early as mid-2014, is planned to be 100,000 square feet and will serve freighter aircraft. It will create jobs in design and construction as well as in warehousing and other services when it is finished.

The TIACA International Air Cargo Forum and Exposition continues through Thursday.
