AH&LA PARTNERS WITH GEORGETOWN UNIVERSITY LAW CENTER FOR INAUGURAL HOTEL & LODGING LEGAL SUMMIT

Washington, D.C., 2012-09-19 — /travelprnews.com/ — The American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA) and Georgetown University Law Center are hosting the inaugural Hotel & Lodging Legal Summit on November 8-9, 2012, on the campus of Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, D.C.  The conference will feature panels of leading industry attorneys, who will explore current legal challenges confronting owners, developers, managers, franchisors, and servicers of hotels and lodging facilities.

Sessions include the General Counsel Roundtable, comprised of general counsels from Best Western International, DiamondRock Hospitality Company, Hilton Worldwide, Inc., Hyatt Hotels Corporation, Marriott International, Inc., and RLJ Investment Trust.  Professor David Sherwyn, J.D., of the Cornell University School of Hotel Administration will moderate a panel on current labor and employment issues.  A session focused on the recent developments under the Americans with Disabilities Act will feature a senior attorney from the Justice Department and the attorney who has represented the hotel industry in negotiations with the Justice Department in regard to swimming pool lift requirements.  Another highlight of the conference will be a discussion of Fairmont v. Turnberry and similar cases between hotel owners and operators, featuring attorneys who have represented the parties to these cases.

This event has been planned in consultation with an advisory board of attorneys representing most of the largest hotel owners and brand companies in North America, as well as prominent attorneys who have supported the industry from law firms throughout the United States.

“Today more than ever, our industry is confronted by a variety of legal challenges ranging from litigation over termination of hotel management agreements to challenging collective bargaining agreement negotiations in New York and other markets to a sharp increase in regulatory activity,” said AH&LA President/CEO Joe McInerney.  “This summit brings attorneys from all segments of our industry together to discuss these myriad of legal issues.”
