1.5 Million Travelers Expected At Chicago’s Airports For Busy Labor Day Holiday

CHICAGO, 2012-08-30 — /travelprnews.com/ — The Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA) is ready to welcome travelers as the busy 2012 summer travel season draws to a close this Labor Day weekend. Airlines at both O’Hare and Midway International Airports anticipate nearly 1.5 million passengers to travel through the airports beginning today, August 29 through Tuesday, September 4. At O’Hare, the busiest day is anticipated to be Tuesday, September 4 with nearly 203,000 passengers. Friday, August 31 is projected to be the busiest travel day at Midway with nearly 73,000 passengers. Passenger volume is up nearly four percent at Midway and 1.5 percent at O’Hare compared to the same holiday travel period last year.

“The Chicago Department of Aviation and our airport partners are ready to welcome travelers at O’Hare and Midway as they wrap up the summer vacation and travel season,” said Commissioner Rosemarie S. Andolino. “As always, we will provide a safe and secure environment for travelers, as well as live musical entertainment to coincide with this weekend’s Chicago Jazz Festival.”

Passengers traveling through O’Hare and Midway will be treated to a taste of Chicago’s rich jazz heritage with live band and vocal performances on Thursday, August 30 and Friday, August 31 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Performances, which coincide with the 34th Annual Chicago Jazz Festival 2012, take place at O’Hare in Terminal 1 in the baggage claim area; past security checkpoints in Terminals 2 and 3; and in the lower level meter/greeter area in Terminal 5; and at Midway in the baggage claim area next to the information booth.

U.S. flags and patriotic signage will be displayed inside and outside both O’Hare and Midway to commemorate the U.S. holiday.

Airport staff at Midway will also offer complimentary lemonade to passengers on Friday, August 31 and Tuesday, September 4.
