U.S. Travel: Automated I-94 Form Important Step in Modernizing Admissions Process for International Travelers

Washington, D.C., 2013-04-30 — /travelprnews.com/ — The U.S. Travel Association today applauded the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) for its rollout of an automated I-94 Arrival/Departure Record, which will make the admissions process for international travelers lawfully visiting the United States more efficient – and will maximize resources for CBP officers at ports of entry – by moving from a paper to automated form.

“We commend the announcement by CBP’s acting commissioner Thomas Winkowski to securely modernize a critical step in the international traveler admissions process. Streamlining the I-94 form, alongside other helpful developments by the agency such as Global Entry and the OneStop program, proves that, when given the resources to do so, CBP is creative in improving the experience for international travelers,” said Roger Dow, president and CEO of the U.S. Travel Association. “We applaud CBP for implementing this technology – and for saving travelers, the government and the travel industry time and resources.”

The I-94 form gathers basic information from international travelers arriving to the United States by air or sea.

Facilitating increased travel is good for the U.S. economy. In 2012, travel spending in the United States generated a total of $2 trillion in economic output. The travel industry also supported 14.6 million jobs and was among the top 10 employers in 48 U.S. states and the District of Columbia.

The U.S. Travel Association is the national, non-profit organization representing all components of the travel industry that generates $2.0 trillion in economic output and supports 14.6 million jobs. U.S. Travel’s mission is to increase travel to and within the United States.
