Travel Alberta: Banff to host Cochon555 on April 28

ALBERTA, Canada, 2018-Mar-21 — /Travel PR News/ — America’s most exciting culinary events with its foray in the Banff and Lake Louise region, a destination embarking on an ambitious culinary tourism initiative to raise interest and awareness of its impressive local food scene.

On Saturday April 28, Banff will be the first destination in Canada to host a signature Cochon555 experience. The iconic Fairmont Banff Springs hotel is the chosen venue to feature this dramatic chef’s competition to best prepare and present one whole, heritage-breed pig.

Bringing nose-to-tail excitement to the Canadian Rockies, Cochon555 and Banff & Lake Louise Tourism invite ticket holders to feast all Saturday afternoon on 1,500 pounds of heritage-breed pork and more local culinary creations during an elaborate three-hour dining experience. More than 35 courses will be served to hundreds of roving diners enjoying wine, local craft beer and spirits alongside ethically sourced heritage pork.

The ultimate aim of Cochon555 is to provide education to chefs and consumers and create experiences that guests can sink their teeth into: honest food from real farmers. The goal is to raise the bar on building a sustainable and profitable relationship for brands and chefs participating in culinary festivals. “We invited Cochon555 to Banff because of its hard-won reputation for culinary influence, special experiences, and unique insights for all of us who appreciate great food, flavours, and chefs,” said Woodrow Oldford, VP, Global Marketing for Banff & Lake Louise Tourism. “What better way to welcome people motivated to travel by their passion for wholesome, locally-sourced food than with our new Cochon555 friends and five local, rivaling chefs picked to compete here this year? This culinary experience for Albertans and visitors will be epic.” Participating local chefs will be announced in the coming weeks. The winner of this Canadian competition advances to the national finale in Chicago for the Grand Cochon crown, competing with chefs from around the U.S.

“We are excited about Banff and Lake Louise because of its extraordinary setting, progressive food culture and Alberta’s rich agricultural tradition, bounty and care,” says Brady Lowe of Cochon555. “If you love a good cause and want to attend one of North America’s most talked about culinary events, then clear your end-of-April weekend calendar when Cochon555 heads to Banff and its Fairmont Banff Springs hotel.”

A portion of all event sales benefit two charities – Piggy Bank and the Banff Food Bank – and raise awareness of Banff and Lake Louise culinary offers.

Tickets can be purchased separately or with a hotel package at one of three properties – the Fairmont Banff Springs, the Moose Hotel & Suites, and the Banff Caribou Lodge & Spa.

Two tiers of tickets are available: general admission or a VIP ticket, which starts an hour earlier than general admission for a more intimate experience with the chefs and farmers.
