Bangkok, Thailand, 2013-11-14 — /travelprnews.com/ — The situation along the Thai-Cambodian border surrounding the Temple of Phra Viharn remains peaceful. The two countries’ military forces have agreed to strive to maintain peace along the border after the International Court of Justice’s (ICJ) ruling on Monday (11 November 2013).
Life along the Thai-Cambodian border has returned to normal. Businesses and some schools have reopened. However, Thailand’s Khao Phra Viharn National Park has been closed since 4 November 2013 and remains closed until further notice as a precautionary step to ensure peace and security.
On Thailand’s territory, Khao Phra Viharn National Park is situated in Kantharalak district, Si Sa Ket province, in the southern portion of the country’s Northeastern region. Khao Phra Viharn National Park is located 580 kilometres northeast of Bangkok or 7 hours by car.
The Temple of Phra Viharn, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is located in Cambodia’s Preah Vihear province. The temple is occasionally closed as a result of Thai-Cambodian border conflicts. Under a normal situation, Cambodia allows day-trip access from Thailand to the temple on a visa-free basis. Thailand imposes an access fee of 400 baht for entering the Khao Phra Viharn National Park.
Thailand offers a wealth of UNESCO World Heritage sites that are open as per normal, including:
