The Port of Oakland appoints Michael Mitchell as its new Director of Human Resources

Michael Mitchell to oversee labor relations, talent acquisition and more

Oakland, Calif., 2018-Jun-15 — /Travel PR News/ — The Port of Oakland has named Michael Mitchell as its new Director of Human Resources. A 12-year Port veteran, Mr. Mitchell previously served as the Port’s Human Resources Manager.

“Michael Mitchell brings a wealth of government experience to this position,” said Port of Oakland Executive Director Chris Lytle. “His effectiveness in establishing key business partnerships and creating organizational efficiencies will serve the Port well.”

As Director of Human Resources, Mr. Mitchell is primarily responsible for overseeing the following functions:

  • Employee and labor relations;
  • Talent acquisition;
  • Classification and compensation;
  • Organizational effectiveness;
  • Worker’s compensation;
  • Employee benefits; and
  • Safety and employee wellness

Mr. Mitchell began his career at the Port in 2006. Prior to joining the Port, Mr. Mitchell was a senior human resource analyst with the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency, a department of the City and County of San Francisco.

He obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Hampton University, Hampton Virginia.
