The Enterprise Rent-A-Car Foundation further donates £11,000 to complete the floral meadow on Sheffield’s Park Square roundabout

Park Square Roundabout Gets £11k Donation to Complete Floral Makeover

EGHAM, England, 2018-Apr-06 — /Travel PR News/ — The Enterprise Rent-A-Car Foundation has donated a further £11,000 to complete the floral meadow established on Sheffield’s Park Square roundabout in 2015 to celebrate Enterprise Rent-A-Car’s 20th anniversary in the UK.

The initial £16,000 donation from Enterprise Rent-A-Car was used by local experts Pictorial Meadows and the University of Sheffield to establish a perennial meadow around half of the roundabout, which over the past two years has provided many months of beautiful floral displays between spring and autumn.

The second donation has made it possible for Pictorial Meadows to plant the remainder of the roundabout with its innovative PM Turf. Nigel Dunnett, Professor of Planting Design, Urban Horticulture and Vegetation Technology in the Department of Landscape, University of Sheffield, founded Pictorial Meadows. The company has spent more than 15 years researching and developing floral meadow products. By using PM Turf in conjunction with bulbs and shrubs, Park Square roundabout will continue to offer a stunning floral display for many years to come.

Pictorial Meadows worked with Sheffield City Council to help clear the roundabout in preparation for planting, and the PM Turf was laid in March, ready for flowering in the spring.

Councillor Bryan Lodge, Cabinet Member for Environment and Street Scene at Sheffield City Council said: “Park Square roundabout is at the gateway to the city, so its appearance matters enormously in creating first impressions of the city. We have devoted several locations in the city to meadow projects as we believe they are an innovative and smart way of greening the city sustainably and ecologically. I would like to thank Enterprise Rent-A-Car for supporting the Sheffield landscape, and for helping us to extend our meadow project in the city.”

Janene Scurfield, Regional General Manager, Enterprise Rent-A-Car said: “I lived in Sheffield for three years, managing and growing our Enterprise network. It is a fast-changing city with a vibrant and dynamic culture, and a lot of potential for development, which is why we chose this location. The first donation helped us to plant half of the Park Square roundabout with a beautiful floral meadow, but there was scope to do more, which is why we raised additional funds to complete the site. We have 55 branches in the area that includes South Yorkshire, and three in and around Sheffield. We also have nine on-street Enterprise Car Club vehicles. So this is a very important region for Enterprise, and we are pleased that we can help to make a difference for people who live, work and visit here.”

Dan Cornwell, Pictorial Meadows’ Operations Director, oversaw the entire project from scoping out the location to laying the PM Turf, which is grown off-site and enables the rapid transformation of large spaces. He said: “These meadows are a fantastic way to bring urban areas to life. Working with Enterprise Rent-A-Car since 2015 we actually planted eight roundabouts across the country. This project here at Park Square is obviously very important to us as it is in our home city, and very close to the University of Sheffield Landscape Department who conducted all of the research behind making these meadow planting programmes so effective and beautiful. We are really looking forward to this summer when the entire roundabout will be in flower – and then for many summers to come.”
