The Bangor 10K race in association with Belfast City Airport to take place on 24 September 2022

Belfast, Northern Ireland, 2022-May-25 — /Travel PR News/ — Taking place on Saturday 24 September, the Bangor 10K in association with Belfast City Airport has once again been awarded NI Championship status by Athletics NI – a testament to the major impact the race has made on the athletics calendar.

The race is an all-inclusive event, and in the past, has attracted Olympians, National Marathon Champions local athletes, new athletes, and wheelchair participants.

Starting in Castle Park, near the front of the Town Hall, at 10am, the route is fairly flat and fast, with a short hill around 9k.

On leaving Castle Park, participants will run through Bangor town centre before heading out along the coast and countryside to Groomsport.

The route will loop through Groomsport once again, meeting the coast for the penultimate KM back to Bangor. The finish area is in Ward Park in Bangor, where there is plenty of space to rest and enjoy the atmosphere and refreshments.

The total prize fund of over £3400 will include age category prizes for both male and female winners. The race will be chip timed and part of The Cinema Coffee 10k Grand Prix race series.

Online registration is now open with 3 fee options starting at £13.50 for the ‘green fee’. An earlybird rate is available until 31 May.

Clare Russell, Chairperson of North Down Athletic Club and the race organiser said:

“Having to cancel the race over the past two years was a huge disappointment for everyone involved, so this year we are looking forward to hosting yet again a fantastic race.

“The Bangor 10k is one of the most highly anticipated races in Northern Ireland, and this year we have introduced popular fee options to suit the participant’s budget and preferences. As this is one of the most popular races on the athletics calendar we expect the race to sell out before the closing date – so secure your place today!

“I would like to thank Belfast City Airport, Ards and North Down Borough Council and PSNI for their continued support and assistance to the race.”

Paula Bittles, Belfast City Airport, said:

“It is great to be working with North Down Athletic Club again on its much-anticipated Bangor 10K. This is now our fourth year supporting the popular event, which is hailed as one of the most scenic races in the Northern Irish running calendar.

“With a mixture of elite athletes, running clubs, and individuals taking part, it is sure to be a fantastic day for participants and spectators alike.

“Belfast City Airport is committed to making a positive difference and supporting sporting events such as the Bangor 10K is just one of the many ways that we enrich the local community.”
