LONDON, 2016-Aug-03 — /Travel PR News/ — Fans of Darlington Football Club can support their team in style this season with a new shirt sponsorship and generous travel discount from Virgin Trains.

The club has today released images of its official 2016-2017 season team photograph, with the team’s shirts now sponsored by Virgin Trains.

The train operator has also announced it will provide a 25% discount to Quakers fans booking its trains. The discount applies to Standard and First Class Advance Off Peak services, including on non match days, from 5 August 2016 to 30 June 2017.

The discount will be available to the club’s season ticket holders and members, as well as members of the Darlington Football Club Supporters Group. Bookings must be made through the company’s website:www.virgintrainseastcoast.com/darlingtonseason

Darlington Football Club Director John Tempest said: “This really is a fantastic offer from our main sponsors, Virgin Trains, and the club would strongly encourage all our supporters to take advantage of it. There are some great savings to be made for journeys on Virgin’s Trains east coast route, and everywhere else on the Virgin Trains network, and the bookings don’t have to be for travel to football matches alone!”

There are more than 60 Virgin Trains services each day to and from Darlington, offering customers great value fares to destinations across England and Scotland. Virgin Trains recently agreed a two-year deal with the club which will see it feature on all first team and replica kits.

Martin Gray, Darlington FC Manager, said: “The new shirt looks fantastic and to have such a well-known and successful brand on our kit reinforces the history and tradition of our great club in attracting such interest.”

Claire Ansley, General Manager for Virgin Trains on its east coast route, said: “We’re delighted to work with Darlington Football Club as its main sponsor and to offer its fans this fantastic discount. Virgin Trains is proud to support customers and communities on its route, and Darlington remains a very important part of this railway, with direct links to many destinations, including both of the UK’s capital cities.

“We’re now more than half way through a £21m refurbishment of our trains to improve their comfort and reliability – and we hope that many Quakers fans will enjoy travelling in style with Virgin Trains whether on match days or during the rest of the week.”

About Virgin Trains

Stagecoach and Virgin are working in partnership to operate the East Coast and West Coast inter-city routes under the Virgin Trains brand. Together, they are on track to revolutionise rail travel across the UK.

The combined network connects some of the nation’s most iconic destinations including Glasgow, Liverpool, Birmingham, Manchester, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Leeds, York and London.

Virgin Trains is committed to delivering a high speed, high frequency service, offering shorter journey times, more comfortable travel and excellent customer service. Customers consistently rate Virgin Trains as one of the top long-distance rail franchise operators in the National Rail Passenger Survey (NRPS) commissioned by industry watchdog, Transport Focus.

On the East Coast route, £140m is being invested to create a more personalised travel experience. This includes a major fleet revamp, smarter stations and exciting new routes. From May 2016, there will be 42 additional services (22,000 extra seats) per week between Edinburgh and London. 2018 will see the introduction of completely new Azuma trains being built in the UK by Hitachi.

The West Coast route has a proud record of challenging the status quo – from introducing tilting Pendolino trains, to a pioneering automated delay repay scheme and becoming the first franchised rail operator to offer m-Tickets for all ticket types.
