Sustainability Leader Named to Top “40 under 40” by Airport Business Magazine

Airport Business magazine’s annual “Top 40 Under 40” issue highlights outstanding up-and-coming individuals in the business of aviation and airport management who are shaping the future of the industry.

“On behalf of everyone at the Chicago Department of Aviation, I want to congratulate Amy Malick for receiving this well-deserved recognition,” said CDACommissioner Rosemarie S. Andolino. “Amy’s passion and expertise for going green has truly taken flight at O’Hare and Midway International Airports. We are very proud to have her as part of team CDA.”

Since joining the CDA, Malick has launched numerous ground-breaking initiatives at O’Hare andMidway International Airports, including a beehive farm and aeroponic garden, a composting program for concession food scraps and a unique green rating and award system for airport restaurants. Malick is responsible for ensuring that sustainability is incorporated in all phases of airport planning and operation, and for applying the CDA’s Sustainable Airport Manual in a range of contexts – from runways to restaurants. Under her direction, the CDA has received more than $500,000 through energy-efficiency grants and rebates, executed a Retro-Commissioning program for airport facilities, laid the foundation for more than 50 acres of solar fields at O’Hare, installed electric vehicle charging stations at both airports, and implemented a “Green Taxi Program“.

Malick is leading the Logistics and Infrastructure Working Group for the Midwest Aviation Sustainable Biofuels Initiative in partnership with United, Boeing, and other industry stakeholders. Malick also oversees the CDA’s environmental compliance and noise mitigation programs for Midway and O’Hare, including one of the largest residential sound insulation programs in the world.
