Steigenberger starts renovation works at Europäischer Hof in Baden-Baden

Renovation works at the Europäischer Hof in Baden-Baden, Steigenberger’s original founding hotel established by Albert Steigenberger, will commence this spring

Frankfurt am Main, Germany, 2022-Apr-07 — /Travel PR News/ — A legendary hotel in Baden-Baden is about to receive a resplendent new look. Steigenberger is making a successful return to its place of origin by embarking upon a programme of renovations at the Europäischer Hof. When Albert Steigenberger acquired the Europäischer Hof in the 1930s, he set a benchmark which was to influence the luxury hotel sector in Europe for decades to come. Deutsche Hospitality, the umbrella brand of Steigenberger Hotels & Resorts, will now also be writing a new chapter in the history of this particular icon when modernisation measures begin in the spring of 2022.

Following the conclusion of preparations for the building works and a preliminary meeting with the local authorities, the hotel will now close for the time being. The Europäischer Hof Baden-Baden has an outstanding team in place to deal with this stage of the project. The two companies involved are Schleith Baugesellschaft mbH and Bachhuber Contract GmbH & Co. KG together with the latter’s specialist planners.

The Europäischer Hof is steeped in tradition and became the founding hotel for Steigenberger AG when the property was acquired in 1930. The hotel already boasted an illustrious past when Albert Steigenberger purchased it. The Hôtel de l’Europe, which opened on the site in 1840, was fitted out in a sumptuous manner in order to appeal to a highly discerning clientèle. Many prestigious guests have been welcomed over the years, including numerous heads of state, Empress Sissi of Austria, artists and sports stars such as Muhammed Ali.

Steigenberger Icons are located at some of the world’s most renowned locations. They promise sophisticated luxury and the unique character associated with ‘grande hôtellerie’. Steigenberger Icons currently comprise the Grandhotel Belvédère, the Frankfurter Hof, the Grandhotel & Spa Petersberg, the Parkhotel Düsseldorf, the Grandhotel Handelshof and Steigenberger Wiltcher’s – all famous names which the Steigenberger Europäischer Hof is about to join. Each of the above hotels has its own story to relate. For this reason, the conversion and modernisation works at the Europäischer Hof are being carefully conducted behind its historic façade. A new wing is also being planned, and care has been taken to ensure that this will blend in ideally with the existing edifice and the surrounding cityscape. Once the construction project is complete, the hotel will fire the enthusiasm of its guests by offering a mix of elements of visible, historical value together with modern details.

Reopening is scheduled for 2024, by which time the hotel will also feature an integrated spa, an arcade of retail outlets and a large rooftop terrace with views out over the entire city.
