Enhanced health and safety measure required to protect travelers and employees
San Jose, Calif., 2020-May-05 — /Travel PR News/ — Starting Monday, May 4, all members of the public and personnel at Mineta San Jose International Airport (SJC) will be required to wear a face covering inside Airport buildings.
Acceptable face coverings include a scarf or bandana; a neck gaiter; a homemade covering made from a Tshirt, sweatshirt, or towel, held on with rubber bands or other fasteners; or a non-medical grade mask. Face coverings should allow the wearer to breathe comfortably through the nose and not have to adjust it frequently, so as to avoid touching the face.
“Our top priority is protecting the health and safety of SJC employees and travelers,” said John Aitken, SJC Director of Aviation. “Requiring face coverings is the latest measure in our on-going commitment to maintain
a healthy, safe and clean environment now and when non-essential travel resumes in the future.”
Limited exceptions to this face covering requirement include children 6 years old or younger; anyone who has trouble breathing, is incapacitated, or otherwise unable to remove a face covering without assistance; and anyone who has been advised by a medical professional not to wear a face covering.
The new face covering requirement is in addition to the County’s existing protocols for social distancing and washing hands frequently. SJC will display signage throughout the terminals and at all public entry points
reminding all airport users of the new face covering requirement.

“Many of the airlines serving SJC have announced that face coverings will be required for all travelers. Our intent with instituting this new requirement is primarily to protect travelers and employees, but also to align airport and airline policies for a more seamless customer experience,” Aitken added.
In addition, SJC continues to provide a clean and healthy public space for employees and travelers to feel safe and help mitigate the spread of Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19). SJC provides regular cleaning and disinfection of all high-tough point surfaces throughout the day; disinfection of restrooms roughly once every two hours; and deep-cleaning of all public areas each night using a stronger cleaning agent. As an essential infrastructure, SJC remains open for essential travel only under the current health order issued by Santa Clara Public Health.
