2012-10-19 — /travelprnews.com/ — Prepare yourselves for a night of ghosts, ghouls, creepy characters and spine tingling stories this Halloween as Mont Orgueil Castle in Jersey is transformed into a living, breathing ‘House of Horrors’!

Jersey Heritage is throwing open the doors of this historic landmark on Sunday 28th October for its annual ‘spirited’ evening, a haunt-fest of fun and frolics for all the family. The whole site will be open, allowing guests to wander freely, if they dare, through candle-lit rooms, dark corridors and the spooky outdoor spaces.

Along the way they may listen to ghost stories in the Medieval Great Hall, have their fortunes told by tarot card readers in the Tudor Chamber or encounter Miss Haversham weeping at her wedding table in one of the rooms.

It’s not all hair-raising adventures, though. As well as the many characters to be found throughout the Castle, there will also be kids’ craft making, quizzes as well as plenty to eat and drink at the café and food marquee including hog roast, bean crock, hot dogs and cakes.

The event, which is usually open to members only, is now in its third year and has attracted in excess of 600 people in 2010 and 2011. This year, as part of its drive to make heritage accessible to as many people as possible, non-members are also welcome.

Jo Falla, Heritage Venues Manager said: ‘This is a hugely successful event and we want to encourage as many people to enjoy it as possible. It’s a terrific way to experience one of Jersey’s most iconic heritage sites. A lot of people in previous years have used the evening as an opportunity to have a lot of fun with family and friends.’

The event runs from 18:00 to 22:00 but for those die-hards who think they really aren’t afraid of the dark, there’s a special midnight screening of George A. Romero’s 1968 classic, Night of the Living Dead, which is being shown in the Castle crypt, sponsored by Lloyds TSB.
