Sheremetyevo International Airport HY1 2019 passenger traffic 14.1% up YoY

MOSCOW, Russia, 2019-Jul-19 — /Travel PR News/ — Sheremetyevo International Airport has summed up its operating results for June and HY1 2019. Total passenger traffic in the first six months of 2019 was 23.404 million passengers, 14.1% up YoY. In HY1 2019, the airport provided 188,346 takeoff and landing operations, a 14.6% increase YoY. Sheremetyevo is the leading airport in the Moscow Air Hub with 50% of the total passenger traffic.

Between January and June 2019, the number of passengers on international flights amounted to 12.324 million people, which is 11.5% higher than in the same period last year.

The growth in passenger traffic has been attributed to the increased demand for flights to Antalya, Beijing, Bangkok, and Rome.

The passenger traffic on domestic flights for HY1 2019 increased by 17.3% and totalled 11.080 million people. The increased domestic passenger traffic occurred mainly due to the growth in popularity of destinations such as Sochi, Simferopol, Vladivostok and Kaliningrad.

The most popular destinations internationally during HY1 2019 were Antalya, Paris, Yerevan, Beijing, and Tel Aviv. The most popular domestic flights were those to St. Petersburg, Sochi, Simferopol, Yekaterinburg, and Krasnodar.

In HY1 2019, Sheremetyevo added two new international destinations: Marseille and Palma. Between January and June 2019, the airport launched flights to 9 cities in China: Jinan, Shijiazhuang, Fuzhou, Xi’an, Nanning, Nanjing, Taiyuan, Zhengzhou, and Shenyang.

The majority of passenger traffic in January–June 2019 came from Aeroflot, Nordwind Airlines, Rossiya Airlines, Ikar Airlines, Royal Flight, and Air France flights. In the first half of 2019, Belavia and Brussels Airlines started operating flights from Sheremetyevo.
In June 2019, Sheremetyevo served 4.616 million passengers, an increase of 9.3% compared to June 2018. Passenger traffic on international flights increased by 4.5% and amounted to 2.485 million passengers. The number of passengers on domestic flights saw a 15.4% growth and totalled 2.131 million.

Following the June 2019 results, Sheremetyevo is recognized as the leader in punctuality among European airports in the Major Airports category: according to the FlightStats ranking, the airport ensured an on-time departure for 89.97% of all flights.

Sheremetyevo International Airport is a top 10 hub airport in Europe and the largest airport in Russia by passenger and cargo traffic, the number of takeoffs and landings, the total area of terminals, and cargo facility capacity. Sheremetyevo’s route network includes over 220 destinations. In 2018, Sheremetyevo airport serviced 45.836 million passengers, a 14.3% increase compared to 2017.

2018 saw Sheremetyevo top the ASQ ACI program’s ranking for customer service among the largest airports in Europe with passenger traffic exceeding 40 million passengers per year and enter the ACI Director General’s Roll of Excellence list of the world’s best airports.
