(IN SHORT) Shannon Airport is expanding its summer transatlantic services with over 325,000 seats available on direct flights to the U.S., including Delta’s increased capacity on its New York-JFK route and United Airlines’ non-stop service to Chicago. The airport’s connectivity is bolstered by year-round services from Aer Lingus and United Airlines. The increase in flights supports business, tourism, and economic growth, especially with the U.S. Customs preclearance facilities that make travel easier for passengers. Shannon continues to be a vital gateway between the U.S. and Ireland.

(PRESS RELEASE) SHANNON, Ireland, 2025-May-20 — /Travel PR News/ — Shannon Airport is set to soar into the summer season, offering more than 325,000 seats on direct flights to the U.S., including increased capacity on Delta’s direct route to New York-JFK and United Airlines’ non-stop service to Chicago. Delta’s seasonal flights, which resumed this week, will offer 52,000 seats to JFK, an increase of 5,600 compared to last year, running until 20th September. United Airlines will also provide 44,000 seats on its route to Chicago until 24th September.

The return of these flights adds to the year-round services from Aer Lingus to Boston and New York-JFK, and United Airlines’ daily service to New York-Newark, bringing the total number of transatlantic seats available from Shannon this summer to over 325,000. This expanded service allows passengers five daily nonstop flights to the East Coast and Midwest of the U.S.

Delta’s increase in capacity on the Shannon to JFK route reflects its commitment to enhancing its global network and improving connectivity between Europe and the U.S. The airline’s Boeing 767-300ER, which seats 216 passengers, offers four distinct cabins, including Premium Economy and 26 lie-flat Delta One business class seats.

Mary Considine, CEO of Shannon Airport Group, expressed excitement about the growth in demand for transatlantic travel, saying, “Shannon Airport continues to meet the needs of passengers with expanded services, offering five daily nonstop flights to major U.S. cities throughout the summer. We look forward to welcoming passengers, whether they’re traveling for business or leisure, and providing them with easy access to Ireland’s stunning Wild Atlantic Way.”

Orlaith Lawler, Mid-West Chair of the American Chamber of Commerce, emphasized the significance of these routes, stating, “The seasonal routes by Delta and United complement the year-round services by Aer Lingus and United, strengthening Shannon’s role as a key gateway for trade, tourism, and investment between the U.S. and Ireland. This connectivity is a vital driver of economic growth and collaboration with international partners.”

Dermot Kelly, Chairman of the Irish Hotels Federation, welcomed the added flights, highlighting the importance of U.S. visitors for regional tourism. “The expanded connectivity provides greater access to the Wild Atlantic Way, one of the world’s most breathtaking destinations, and supports the tourism economy in Limerick, Galway, and beyond.”

Shannon Airport is proud to have been the first airport outside the Americas to offer full U.S. Customs and Border Protection preclearance facilities, allowing passengers to arrive in the U.S. as domestic travelers. The introduction of the free Mobile Pre-Clearance app also streamlines the process, enabling passengers to complete part of the customs process before arriving at the airport.
