SFO Recognizes Customer Service That’s “Above and Beyond”

Annual Awards Honor Those Who Set the Standard for Outstanding Service

SAN FRANCISCO, 2012-07-23 — /travelprnews.com/ — San Francisco International Airport has announced the winners of the 2012 “Above and Beyond” Airport tenant recognition program, one of the first of its kind in the nation.  This unique program monitors and promotes stellar customer service by recognizing individual employees who excel at providing travelers with outstanding customer service, as well as specific concessions that consistently provide great service at the Airport.

“Our award winners truly deliver the type of excellent service that customers have come to expect at SFO,” said John L. Martin, Director of San Francisco International Airport. “We are honored and pleased to recognize the great work that so many do on a daily basis to make the traveling experience more enjoyable.”
Of the hundreds of concession employees who were evaluated, three individuals were recognized by the team of evaluators for truly going “Above and Beyond”:

Grand Prize Winner: Ms. Kenita Taylor of Erwin Pearl in Terminal 3 – Ms. Taylor was recognized for being an attentive, professional salesperson that consistently excels at creating an inviting shopping environment for her customers. She was also noted for be friendly, outgoing, and extremely welcoming. Ms. Taylor is a 2005 graduate of SFO’s Career Connect Intern Program and the first former Airport intern to receive this recognition.

2nd Prize: Mr. Randy Hom of Kiehl’s in Terminal 2 – Evaluators stated that Mr. Hom exuded professionalism while on the job and that he was always doing whatever he could to assist his customers. Mr. Hom was also noted to have a fantastic memory, to the point of be able to recall a previous customer’s name and shopping preferences after several months from a previous visit.

3rd Prize: Ms. Arceli Perez of Travelex in the International Terminal – Ms. Perez has worked for Travelex for over 11 years.  The evaluators recognized her for delivering consistently great service to the many and varied customers who request currency exchange services each day. She was also noted to have unsurpassed organizational skills, a wonderful sense of humor, and a confident and polite manner.

Concession Winner: Yankee Pier in Terminal 3 – Yankee Pier was evaluated on three separate occasions and received perfect scores each time. The staff was noted for being attentive from start to finish and displaying great teamwork, even during busiest of times. The restaurant’s staff was also recognized for making each customer feel welcome during every visit.

San Francisco International Airport is home to more than 160 restaurants, retailers and services throughout the airport.  Over the past few months, SFO Travelers Information volunteers, acting as “mystery shoppers,” have visited SFO establishments and posed a variety of requests and questions to employees to analyze their job-related performance, as well as their knowledge about the Airport and its services.  The selected winners received a cash award and a recognition certificate at an awards ceremony, held in their honor, on July 18, 2012 in the San Francisco International Airport Aviation Museum and Library.
