Serbia national carrier Jat Airways and airberlin sign codeshare agreement

2013-07-17 — /travelprnews.com/ — From today, airberlin and Jat Airways, the national airline of the Republic of Serbia, will offer their passengers selected flights under shared flight numbers, subject to government approvals. The codeshare agreement is valid for flights from 1st August 2013.

Under the agreement, airberlin will offer the non-stop Jat Airways flights between Belgrade and Berlin, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt and Stuttgart under an AB flight number, thereby expanding their route range in South East Europe.

In return, Jat Airways passengers will be able to connect from Berlin, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt and Stuttgart to numerous airberlin German domestic flights. From airberlin’s hub in Berlin there will be further codeshare flights to prime destinations in Northern Europe to cities such as Copenhagen, Oslo and Stockholm.

Beyond the non-stop connections airberlin guests can also benefit from numerous attractive transfer possibilities with airberlin between Europe and the United States, the home of one of the biggest Serbian communities worldwide.

“The codeshare with Jat Airways supports airberlin’s strategy of strengthening its network through targeted expansion of codeshares. By starting codeshare flights to Belgrade with Jat Airways, airberlin will further expand its presence in the growing market of South East Europe and offer new options to our passengers,” said Wolfgang Prock-Schauer, CEO of airberlin.

Velibor Vukašinović, Jat Airways CEO, said on this occasion: “In view of the nearly four million Serbs living outside their native country and of the growing number of business and leisure travelers towards our country, we are glad to announce that Jat Airways and airberlin are commencing to jointly market flights within their respective route network. airberlin will thereby be introduced to the Serbian market for the first time. This step is also particularly important for Serbia and its vast ethnic community living in Germany and exemplifies that the Serb national airline is fully committed to providing prime time connections for its passengers, while ensuring sound business operation and repossession of the position of regional leader for itself.”

airberlin’s strategic partner Etihad Airways and Jat Airways have signed an Initial Memorandum of Understanding (IMU) to evaluate an investment by Etihad in Jat Airways. Since 15th June 2013, Etihad Airways has also connected its Abu Dhabi hub to Belgrade with daily non-stop flights.

Tickets for the new codeshare flights can be purchased online via airberlin.com or jat.com. Alternatively, guests can buy tickets by calling airberlin’s Service Centre at +49 30/3434 3434 (local rates apply) or Jat’s Call Centres in Germany, Vienna and Zurich (local rates apply) and through the airlines’ sales offices or a travel agent.
