Savoy Signature Hotels & Resorts

It was on the threshold of the twentieth century when the Savoy Hotel opened its doors and began to host the most distinguished aristocracy and visitors from across Europe. From a small family business, the collection has become a legend in the art of hospitality, well-being and service. In 2015, the Saccharum Resort and Spa and the Hotel Calheta Beach, both located in Calheta on the south coast of Madeira (about 25 minutes from Funchal) became part of the group. This was a milestone in the company’s history and there are now six hotels proudly in the Savoy Signature Collection:

Savoy Palace – Tribute Cosmopolitan Resort

Royal Savoy – Heritage Sea Resort

Saccharum – Hedonist Design Resort

Calheta Beach – Fine Sand All-Inclusive Resort

NEXT – Connected Sea Hotel

Now in the 21st century, the reputation of the Savoy brand continues. The history of Savoy Hotels & Resorts has been reinvented but the goals remain the same: consolidating and projecting the centuries-old tradition and excellence of the Savoy brand at an international level.

Savoy Signature Response to Covid 19

Savoy Signature has elevated its standards to an even higher lever, with their own tailored safety and prevention plan. Savoy Signature maintain continuous communication with their partners and tour operators to provide them with all the updated information on their practices and protocols and to jointly define new strategies for the future. “Stay Safe, Stay Savoy” is the brand’s motto for the times ahead. In view of the current situation, Savoy Signature will implement all measures that maximise safety and assure guests without compromising the quality of service that characterizes the brand. Despite the current challenging and unprecedented times, there is Savoy Signature’s guarantee to provide the best experiences to their guests, underlying all the operational changes at Savoy Palace. Savoy Signature’s “Stay Safe Stay Savoy” protocol is available here

Madeira’s Response to Covid 19:

Madeira and Porto Santo have been widely referred to as one of the safest places to travel to post-pandemic. To ensure security for both tourists and residents, all people travelling to the islands have to either present a negative test done within 72 hours prior to departure or be tested upon arrival, without any costs – Covid-19 tests on arrival are paid for by the Madeira Government.  Madeira Islands are focused on positioning as a Covid-safe destination and are working with SGS, the world leader in certification, to ensure good practice across the destination to minimise risk in the wake of Covid-19. The certification process is available to all companies in the tourism sector.  Furthermore, Madeira was a pioneer in the whole of Portugal in developing a good practices document to deal with Covid-19. These measures will provide comfort to those who travel, and it is ultimately for the wellbeing of all.  These initiatives, to cover testing costs, partner with SGS in certification and develop a good practices document, underpin the destination’s determination to ensure a safe tourism location for all visitors. As of 10th September, Madeira has 178 registered cases of Covid-19 and no deaths. All 42 active cases are confined in designated hotels or at private homes.

About the Madeira Archipelago

Considered the Best Island Destination in the World (World Travel Awards), Madeira is a small Portuguese paradise located amid the immensity of the Atlantic Ocean. Of volcanic origin, its privileged location provides a mild climate and sea with pleasant temperatures all year round, in addition to impressive sceneries of mountains, valleys and cliffs, all covered by the exuberant Laurissilva vegetation, named Natural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. The archipelago is formed by a set of islands, the main and only inhabited being Madeira and Porto Santo. There are excellent options for spas, historic monuments and great hotels and restaurants, where you can sample delicious cuisine and award-winning Madeiran wines.
