The boat rides to the island proved a huge success as families queued to take the 10 minute dhow boat trip to Palm Island and then visibly enjoyed the ferry ride with its close up views of the Corniche and Doha’s iconic skyline on the shore. On arrival families were welcomed with soft drinks, mineral water and fruit and invited to take part in different sports from mini tennis to volleyball, racing track, Billiard, playing pool and bouncy castle entertainment, as well as face painting. There were even races between cartoon characters – Smurfs, Sponge Bob and Barney – to entertain the kids and underline the importance of sport for a healthy lifestyle.

During the first day, and on the return boat trip families were treated on one day to a grandstand view of the international Doha Powerboat races, watching the world’s fastest boats fly by on the water at high speed from the dhow ferry deck.
