DOHA, Qatar, 2014-2-17 — /travelprnews.com/ — Seventh seed Simona Halep of Romania has celebrated her first title of the year by clinching the Qatar Airways sponsored Qatar Total Open 2014 in straight sets against Angelique Kerber.

Halep won the final 6-2, 6-3 to take home the Doha title in front of a packed crowd at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex last night. The victory comes after Halep had previously defeated two other top-10 players at the same event; No.7 Sara Errani in the quarterfinals and No.4 Agnieszka Radwanska in the semifinals, before taking on ninth-ranked Kerber in the final.

Qatar Airways, the Official Airline of the six-day event, has been a strong supporter of the tournament over the years since it was launched in 2001 as the first professional women’s tennis tournament to be staged in the Middle East.

The airline and its subsidiary Qatar Duty Free (QDF), bronze sponsor of the tournament had a strong presence at the public village with dedicated pavilions offering a range of retail products.

“Qatar Airways is proud to support the Qatar Total Open which brings world-class tennis action from some of the most exceptional players to Doha. Our congratulations go out to Simona Halep for winning this prestigious title in Doha for the first time,” said a spokesperson of the Doha-based airline.

Qatar Airways has seen rapid growth in just 17 years of operations. It flys a modern fleet of 129 aircraft to 134 key business and leisure destinations across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia Pacific and The Americas.
